Download a Free Software Application to Accelerate Research
The World Community Grid is a free and open-source computing infrastructure. It allows scientists to analyze data about disease outbreaks and develop faster tools to respond to them. The World Community Grid is designed to support multiple projects simultaneously. It has two versions for Windows and Linux computers. Currently, two projects use World Community Grid agents. Agents process work units for both projects at the same time. This allows researchers to better predict natural disasters and protect water supplies.
IBM's World Community Grid works by leveraging the spare computing power of volunteers around the world. Volunteers download a free software application to their computer or other device and use it to perform research calculations and virtual experiments. The data they collect is then transmitted back to researchers and used to accelerate research. There are many projects aimed at solving global problems, from curing diseases to developing clean energy. World Community Grid users are a valuable resource in research for the next generation.
Previously, the World Community Grid was hosted at a traditional data center. The infrastructure used by the World Community Grid distributes tasks to volunteer devices and validates results for scientists. The World Community Grid wanted to create a more scalable and flexible environment for its users. The World Community Grid is currently accepting proposals for five research projects a year. For more information, visit their Web site. So far, World Community Grid has already received over 400,000 registrations.
